Five County RSVP provides opportunities for
meaningful service in the community to men and women over age 55. RSVP
volunteers are in service at local hospitals, libraries, food banks, senior
centers and schools. RSVP volunteers tutor children, provide one-on-one support
to terminally ill in hospice programs, or transport non-driving residents to the
grocery store or doctor's office. RSVP volunteers sing, act, dance, judge,
mentor, fold and stuff, and take tickets - providing the corps of support for
numerous community events.
Current needs include:
-
Seniors-in-Schools - Friendly,
patient men and women needed to work one-on-one or in small groups with
children in your nearest neighborhood school to help build or strengthen
literacy and language skills. Second language skills an asset, but not
necessary.
- Hospice
Volunteers - Loving men and women
needed to provide one-on-one support to terminally ill and their family. Ten
hours of training provided prior to assignment.
- Senior Citizen
Center - help during the lunch hour.
- St. George Live!
Thespians sought to perform the roles of Brigham Young, Erastus Snow, Jacob
Hamblin and other Dixie pioneers in downtown historic walking tour. Bus
drivers, team captains and others support people to help with behind the
scenes activities.
- 5-County Re-entry
Council - The current system of incarceration does not work to
rehabilitate offenders. Your time and life experiences can help reduce
the 72% recidivism rate at area correctional facilities. Volunteers are
needed to help improve reading and language skills, develop
vocational/marketable skills to enable newly released offenders to get jobs,
serve on committees.
- Community events
volunteers have the opportunity - in addition to anyother volunteer service
assignment - to get-in-free to most area events and activities, such as symphony concerts,
St. George Musical Theater and Dixie College Graff
Theater performances, Tuacahn's summer season and other exciting events.
- Fill in at most
all RSVP volunteer stations (see
above) during summer months when "snowbirds" return to cooler climates.
As members, RSVP volunteers receive accident
and liability coverage during the time of their service through a no-cost
insurance policy; recognition for their community support; and information on
new opportunities for service through ongoing communication. RSVP is a
program of the National Senior Service Corps.
