The Washington County Youth Court, a program of the Youth Volunteer Corps of Washington County, is a youth-focused, youth-driven peer court that hears cases regularly in St. George and in Hurricane. Our local Youth Court program is recognized and authorized by the Washington County Attorney’s Office, Juvenile Justice Court, the Utah State Attorney General's Office, and the Five County Re-entry Council. Youth Court exists as a preventive measure to divert first-time juvenile offenders from the Juvenile Court system through service learning and mentoring.

To ensure that deliberations are as fair as possible, we use a panel system consisting of many judges. This insures that different opinions are heard and recognized. We rely on youth volunteers between the ages of 11-18 to not only to act as judges, clerks, bailiffs, and other pertinent positions, but to be good mentors as well. This means that youth are willing to be law-abiding citizens who are are trying their best in school, in their person activities, and within the community as a whole.
